ROLES AT TIMBERLANE

The role of a cabin counselor at Timberlane is personality driven. The counselors that have the most fun, while maintaining a safe and organized environment, will make the greatest impact. Our cabin counselors and staff must be passionate, energetic and accountable – while always putting the campers before themselves. Cabin counselors at Timberlane travel to each of the 5 activity periods a day with their campers. They participate in the full range of programs with the campers, leading by example. Counselors participate with and supervise the campers throughout the day, including but not limited to all meals, clean up, rest period after lunch, evening programs and bedtime.

Camp Timberlane counselors and specialty staff have many opportunities to get involved in Camp life and are encouraged to take advantage of Timberlane’s activities and programs. Staff concerts, theatre productions, sport leagues, socials, movie nights, games nights and special snacks are just some of the entertainment available to staff during their free time and evenings.

Timberlane specialty staff (specialists), are an integral aspect of Camp. The specialists are responsible for organizing and supervising their programs, while teaching tangible skills and lessons to campers. Timberlane specialists exhibit passion and enthusiasm throughout the day – they thrive off watching camper’s accomplishments. Most specialists will run 5 activity periods a day, as well as additional special programs and private clinics for campers that take an interest in their craft.

We have a wide range of Specialist roles at Timberlane.

Our Arts Program features: Pottery, Cooking, Textiles and Fine Arts (Painting, Jewelry & Beads, Glasswork and Tie Dying)

Our Landsports roles include: (Soccer, Basketball, Inline Hockey, Tennis, Baseball, Archery & Volleyball)

Timberlane’s Ropes staff work on our Canopy Course, Rockwall, Zipline, High Ropes Course & High Swing.

Our Waterfront Team features roles in the following: Lifeguard & Swim Instructors, Ski Staff & Paddles (Kayak, Canoe & Stand up Paddleboarding).

Our Wilderness Tripping staff is typically made up of 12 staff from Canada & around the world. Canoe tripping is a popular activity at Timberlane. Campers begin tripping at age 11-12 and go until they are counselors in training (CIT). Our shorter trips are two night/three day outings and our longest trip is a 10-days. Most of our canoe tripping is done in Algonquin Park with 6 campers and 3 staff in three canoes, though we also send trips to Temagami Park, Killarney Provincial Park and Barron River. Our routes are geared to the age and ability level of the group. We want it to be a fun and positive experience for everyone.

Our Wilderness Canoe Trippers work under the supervision of the specialty head. In Pre-Camp we run a two-day Wilderness First-Aid training course for our own trip instructors. This is a terrific course to help familiarize our trippers with the safety routines of our program and to make them comfortable as an instructor in this area.

Attitude and personality are a huge part of this position. The campers will feed off of your energy and passion for the outdoors. The trippers have a huge responsibility, as it is the only activity that is out of sight of the Camp Directors so we must have absolute trust in our staff.
