PACKING FOR CAMP

At Timberlane, we believe that camp is the place for sensible, comfortable & casual clothing. Most campers bring far too much and shelf space is limited. Please review our suggested clothing list. It is essential that each and every article of clothing, bedding, sports equipment, flashlight, camera, etc., be marked with your child’s name in full. This should be done with woven or washable printed name tapes. This is the only safe way to be sure nothing is lost and for proper identification in the Laundry.  It is impossible to return lost items when they are not labeled.

As a long standing tradition, everyone wears white for Friday evenings. Camper laundry is done once a week and is a one day service. The clothes are washed, dried and folded, but not ironed. Please do not send any clothing that requires special laundering.

All clothing, bedding and personal effects should be packed in duffle bags for simple handling. Duffel’s should be securely closed and well tagged with the campers’ baggage tags, which are mailed to you early in June. Each camper must be restricted to two duffels. Tennis equipment, fishing rods and musical instruments may be carried on to the bus.

We do our utmost to see that the children receive all of their laundry back and also that they return home with all of the clothing and equipment they brought. However we regret that we are unable to assume any responsibility for clothing lost in the laundry or anything mislaid at camp.

SCREEN FREE POLICY

Timberlane will be adapting a SCREEN-FREE POLICY this summer. This means campers will not be permitted to bring any devices to camp that are capable of playing games, watching movies, downloading data or being used as a telephone. Despite our best efforts to manage this in the past, these devices create distractions and are sometimes used inappropriately.

Screens discourage the positive social interaction that makes camp special. Removing screens from camp fosters meaningful relation-ships and the ability to create long lasting memories.
Personal music devices (screen free) such as ipod shuffles or mp3 players will still be permitted for use in the cabin only.

If a screen is brought to camp it will be confiscated and will only be available for pickup after labour day from our Toronto office. Upon a second offence the camper will be suspended from camp for three nights. This rule will be enforced without exception including to those campers who travel from out of town. Parents will be responsible for pickup and drop off of their camper. A third offence may be grounds for dismissal for the remainder of the summer. If you are unsure about a particular technology please ask a Director prior to arrival. We strongly suggest you discuss this consequence with your child to avoid the disappointment, cost and inconvenience.

Disposable cameras will still be allowed.

ZERO TOLERANCE OF HOT POTS

Hot pots have always been on our “What not to bring list”. We are still finding ourselves confiscating a few of them throughout the summer. Due to the intense danger Hot pots, Kettles and any other cooking appliances can cause, they now fall under our ZERO TOLERANCE policy. Anyone caught with a hot pot or similar item is now grounds for dismissal at the sole discretion of Directors.

Bottled water is not needed in camp. Camp has an ultra-modern water filtration system which delivers superbly healthy (and delicious) drinking water.

FOOD AND CANDY POLICY

For safety reasons, we ask campers and staff not to bring food, candy or drinks into camp. We have children with life threatening food allergies and we do not want to risk a child having an allergic reaction. Camp Timberlane is a NUT FREE facility. Campers are permitted to bring a nut-free snack for the bus ride up to camp.

SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. CONSIDERABLE THOUGHT HAS GONE INTO OUR POLICIES. WE ASK ALL PARENTS AND STAFF TO SUPPORT OUR POLICIES AND HELP KEEP OUR CHILDREN BOTH SAFE AND HEALTHY.
